David M. Waterhouse, MD, MPH, is a medical oncologist and hematologist with OHC, Cincinnati. His specialties are lung cancer and urologic cancer, and his passion is for cancer clinical research. Dr. Waterhouse is the founder and Co-Director of OHC’s nationally-recognized Clinical Research Program.
Dr. Waterhouse received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, where he also completed an internship and residency. He completed a fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he later also earned a Master of Public Health.
In 1992, Dr. Waterhouse received a Young Investigator Award from the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) to support his transition from the fellowship program to a faculty appointment. Since then, he has devoted his career to advancing cancer research and improving patient access to the best possible treatments. His accomplishments have largely been achieved as a community-based oncologist, helping to change the face of cancer research from that of a strictly academic-only pursuit.
Dr. Waterhouse is a former Strategic Partner in the Sarah Cannon Research Network. He is currently a National Network Principal Investigator for The US Oncology Network and US Oncology Research and is a member of its Research Executive Committee and an Associate Director of the Lung Cancer Committee. He is the recipient of numerous recognitions including the Oncology Times Excellence in Oncology Award (2019), The US Oncology Network’s Excellence in Clinical Research Award (2017), Cancer Support Community Inspiration in Cancer Award (2016), Cincinnati Health Care Hero (Innovation) award (2016) and is a two-time winner of ASCO’s Clinical Trials Participation Award (2015, 2007).
Dr. Waterhouse has been an active member of ASCO committees including the Cancer Research Committee and is the current Chair of the ASCO Research Community Forum. He is a regular presenter at ASCO national conferences and is an international speaker and author. As a member ASCO’s Conqueror’s Circle, Dr. Waterhouse lent his support to the Conquer Cancer Foundation’s Campaign to Conquer Cancer and has helped the Foundation raise nearly $139 million. In 2017, the Conquer Cancer Foundation used Dr. Waterhouse’s story to lead a fundraising campaign that reached more than 90,000 potential donors and secured 1900 donors.
